How can you overcome obstacles to starting a home business?

The biggest obstacle that most people confront when starting a home business is their own negative self talk. If you have never done this before I would suggest keeping your day job until you have developed a certain level of competency and faith in your ability to make your business work. If you have lost your job and don’t have this luxury, it simply means you have to move faster.

Read as many self help books as you can, listen to the tons of audios out there, and look up the top leaders and follow them on a daily basis. I love Brendon Burchard, who is really a great teacher on how to take your expertise and translate it into a position. His expert academy is the best course I ever saw on building and starting a home business. Find someone you relate to and let them mentor you; and just remember, you are the main person responsible for your success or failure.

It doesn’t matter what business you start, online or not, you will usually encounter some challenges. I am so grateful personally because up to now there has never been a challenge that was not overcome through my belief in myself and my faith in the passion I have for whatever I am invovled with. That is why it is so important to really love what you are doing. 

I also suggest always staying focused on where you are going rather than on things from the past. People let their past interfere too much with their present and future, and as you cannot change the past, the best thing you can do is leave it completely. Most of our negative self talk comes from past experiences, and this creates a barrier between where you are and where you want to go. Keep focusing on the future because vision can and does usually become reality. So keep your mind focused on what you want to have happen and create your future by doing so.

Also, it is important not to fall into the dark well of wasting time on the Internet. I know many people who tell me they worked 3-4 hours the day before on their business, but in reality, all they were doing is emails and surfing. It is absolutely important to build relationships and have exchanges with people, and if you spend hours every day surfing the web and sending emails which don’t solicit responses, then you are really wasting your time and you cannot really say this is working.

The more you self educate yourself by reading and studying with the top mentors, the better chance you will have to succeed. It is really important to have a lot of self discipline when you are starting a home business, when you are your own boss. So every day, ask yourself before sleeping if you were a really good employee, and if you were paying someone to do what you did today, would you be happy with the results. Be a harsh critic of your own actions and give your best at all times. Then you can win your own “employee of the year” award.
