Too many aspiring entrepreneurs start their own business only to find themselves losing their motivation a few months later. They either had wrong expectations about the reality of the entrepreneurial lifestyle, or they lost interest in their startup business ideas, or they were losing money because their business was not profitable.
That’s why it is extremely important to have a strong reason WHY you’re starting that business in the first place. Before you jump into a new business venture, you must be crystal clear about your passion and purpose in life. If your new business doesn’t match with that purpose, then your chances to succeed in the long term are almost null.
If you’re not passionate about it, don’t do it.
If you are not scared and excited about it, don’t do it.
If you don’t feel that you’re called to do it, don’t do it.
You are going to face hard times, that’s for sure. However, passionate people won’t ever give up, because their pursuit is associated to a bigger purpose. For them it is a life dream that they won’t ever give up under any circumstances. They are committed to do something that’s bigger than life.
On the other hand, people who are not passionate and purposeful will give up and and find it’s time to move on easily, because what they are doing has no real meaning to them. It was just an interesting idea or a shiny opportunity that they were trying to make money from.
Steve Jobs said, “People say you have to have a lot of passion for what you’re doing, and it is totally true. And the reason is because it is so hard that if you don’t, any rational person would give up. It’s really hard and you have to do it over a sustained period of time. So, if you don’t love it, if you don’t have fun doing it, you’re going to give up.”
When you feel that you’re losing motivation, do a passion check. Are you chasing after startup business ideas for a big meaningful reason or are you doing this for a chance to be your own boss?
Again, if you’re not passionate about it, it’s time to move on and don’t do it.
If you’re passionate about it, then when your motivation slows down, it is probably a sign of exhaustion. So, take a break, relax and come back again with full power.
Passion is king!
